Networking Alternative to Multi Protocol Label Switching

Networking Alternative to Multi Protocol Label Switching

Establishing agile, flexible, and global connectivity

Challenges

Multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) circuits are a common component of many enterprises IT infrastructure, helping to groom data traffic from remote branch locations into their more prominent data center locations. MPLS bandwidth is designed to provide high-performance, reliable network connectivity with guaranteed bandwidth and QoS. However, there are some limitations associated with the service.

Cost

MPLS comes at a much higher price per bandwidth than a broadband Internet connection.

Centralization

Most MPLS architectures are designed to send all traffic to a central hub. Businesses migrating more applications to the cloud causes significant network latency due to inefficient routing over costly circuits.

Geographic limitations

MPLS circuits are a service offered by telecommunication carriers. Suppose an MPLS provider is not available in a certain geographic region. In that case, MPLS circuits cannot be used to send traffic there, or circuits can be extended to that location at an additional cost.

Provisioning delays

Provisioning MPLS circuits on a service provider’s network is slow. Customers rely solely on the service provider that provides the networking service and in many cases, local carriers that provide wholesale last mile connectivity. As a result, service providers often rely on other parties to extend their network to customer locations if they do not have direct access to the location. This makes it difficult for Enterprises using MPLS to adapt to sudden increases in their bandwidth requirements across their network.

The 3nets solution

3nets exploits high bandwidth IP connectivity and a software-defined orchestration architecture to build a networking fabric abstraction above the IP layer. Layered on that is an intelligent source routing overlay technology that provides a high performance, any to any connectivity and observability of the network and the applications running over it. In addition, 3nets creates the interconnections for the enterprise’s internal workloads based on the SLAs, and ensures the traffic over the IP and multi cloud environment is secured through end-to-end encryption and micro segmentation.

The 3nets solution further provides:

Multi cloud service orchestration

By leveraging infrastructure automation tools (i.e. Terraform, Cillium, Avesha KubeSlice), 3nets eliminates cloud provider management borders, simplifying the management to a single pane of glass across multiple clouds

Point and click multi cloud network provisioning

Once deployed, 3nets enables end users to simply connect sites and workloads through 3nets intuitive graphic user interface. Point, click, done!

Security and segmentation

Our zero trust architecture provides microsegmentation of workloads, strict access at the edge, end-to-end encrypted data in transit, automatic key rotation, and integration with 3rd party next-generation firewalls for additional security feature functionality where you need it.

Automated scalability and elasticity

The 3nets network intelligence and multi cloud orchestration automates the scalability of resources across multiple clouds to adjust connectivity needs for longer-term trends or immediate spikes in demand. Additionally, computing resources supporting the connectivity scales, providing “just in time” cost efficiencies.

Business Results

Cloud savings

Reduction in last-mile costs significantly reduces cloud access charges.

Simplified operations

A unified cloud access technology provides a repeatable solution that is secure, global, and easy to manage

Business agility

Enables the rapid deployment of new remote sites, without waiting for carrier provisioning.

Improved security posture

Collecting data from many locations can become tricky. Some applications may have security built in, others not. By providing an automated end-to-end encryption profile, all data transport can be managed in a similar fashion.
